Adagiae

A quest for connection across generations For his new choreography "Adagiae," Koen De Preter collaborates with local performers of all ages. Kempense churches and their acoustics and architecture form the unique setting. De Preter drew his inspiration from the book 'Adagia' by philosopher Erasmus, a book full of proverbs from Greek and Roman antiquity that are still used today and appeal to the imagination. Hurry slowly (festina lente) Time reveals all (tempus omnia revelat) Bringing something out of the shadows into the sunlight (ex umbra in solem educere) 'Adagiae' makes us reflect on finitude and eternity, past and future. Together with the dancers, the choreographer searches for connection across generations. Composer Frederik Karcher writes/plays live music: ambient, guitar, beats and samples of classical music. Koen De Preter is known as choreographer of 'To Belong' (Theater Stap), 'Tender Men', 'J o u r n e y' (with the then 86-year-old Alphea Pouget), 'The House That Built Us' (UNM), 'We dance to forget' and 'followfollow' (fABULEUS). This performance is the successor to 'urBach' by choreographer Helder Seabra, which in 2017 had a group of Kempen young dancers shine in various churches.
