Mozart Requiem

Franz Schubert – Symphony no. 8 ‘Unvollendete’ D.759 György Ligeti – Lux aeterna  Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Requiem in d-mol (KV 626) Ironically, Mozart wrote his famous Requiem from his own deathbed. At his death, he left an unfinished score, as if his farewell to life should not mean the end of his music. And so it happened: his large-scale work for choir and orchestra is of an unearthly beauty, which still offers solace. Many generations later, Ligeti also found inspiration in the eternal light. In his Lux Aeterna, a swirling web of sounds forms a mysterious musical mist that represents eternity. The über-romantic Schubert also preferred to escape earthly existence: "the inner life is the only life," sounded his motto. Like Mozart, he left his most beguiling work in an appropriate manner: unfinished.
