Ik noem jou

‘IK NOEM JOU’ is a powerful telling of the history of the twentieth century, played by Sofie Decleir and Heart actors from Morocco, Iran, Turkey and Armenia. A story about how unwittingly history shapes us and that we must therefore never forget history. Sofie Decleir and the Heart Players enter into dialogue together and play ‘IK NOEM JOU’ where they describe each other's history and discover that in all the differences there are many points of contact. The starting point of this performance is theatre-maker Marit Stocker's own history and the lives of her Jewish ancestors, the Israëls family, including painters Jozef and Isaac Israëls. Her great-grandmother, Henriette Israëls fled to Switzerland during the Second World War and founded a new family there. Upon returning to Amsterdam, her entire family had been deported to various concentration camps with no chance of survival. The guilt this woman carried still weighs on generations later. In ‘IK NOEM JOU’, Marit Stocker looks this trauma straight in the eye and uses her family history to write a story in which discrimination, rascime and racial hatred - more than terms - are heartbreaking and mark people for the rest of their lives. From her history, Marit Stocker reflects to the Heart Players of HETGEVOLG, people from all over the world who each carry their story and show how history has often unintentionally determined their course of life. How they deal with that history and what makes them vulnerable and resilient. In IK NOEM JOU, Marit Stocker describes a new sense of connecting her life to the course of history. Rarely will a story ensure that the landscape in which it takes place and the people who live in it become so anchored in the hearts of the audience as the one in ‘IK NOEM JOU’ HET GEVOLG allows different voices and visions to speak, we are a place where all voices must be safely addressed. This is how we make ourselves vulnerable. That is HETGEVOLG.
